【Address】3 Yokoyama Iwakuni City Yamaguchi Prefecture 741-0081
Iwakuni Castle is the mountain castle built by the first mayor of Iwakuni City, Hiroie Kikkawa in 1608. However only eight years after it was constructed, it was broken down by “One-Country-One-Castle Policy” of the Tokugawa Shogunate. For that reason, the present castle was rebuilt in 1962.
Inside the castle, there is a museum, and you can see a detailed model of Kintaikyo Bridge, samurais’ swords and armors and so on. From the top floor you can view not only whole Iwakuni City, Iwakuni military base but also islands of Seto Inland Sea such as Miyajima Island as well as even faraway Shikoku when the weather is fine.
